Every now and then, I come up with posts alluding to the concept of a LATIN lover. For the most part, it seems the most common definition is a stereotype of a passionate, romantic Latin American or southern European male, and trust me, not that I'm defending the or any particular culture, but I decided to do a little research on the subject to establish what the a LATIN lover really is. You may add your thoughts, since there is really not much you can find in the net on the subject, except people who love speaking latin, or love latin music, love latin things in general, and the sort.

First of all, the concept seems to be generally based in the fictitious character of Don Juan (in Spanish) or Don Giovanni (in Italian). Don Juan is the main character in a Spanish play published in the 1600's, and I believe most of you know about Don Giovanni as in Mozart's opera. The term Don Juan is usually used for woman in a derogatory way. However, there are other Don Juan's in the literature that don't qualify as "latin lovers" for the simple fact that they don't speak Spanish or Italian, but I think this is simply wrong. Latin lovers, may be LATIN or not, they may come in all colours, shapes, nationalities, and cultures.

I want to refer to a few "real" examples to make the point. I need to stress though that the situations did not apply to me (sorry to disappoint), I just merely witnessed .

    I was talking to an American from Seattle, who very straight forwardly told me that he just could not resist flirtatious women, that as soon as he watched a woman waving her hair, crossing her legs, or showing just a little cleavage, his mind started revving non-stop just imagining what what's under the hood. Then, he barely could concentrate on anything else, and the only way to get out of that state was to approach the woman in question and tell her what he was feeling. He said that sometimes he got the harsh boot, but some other times, he managed to get a date or maybe something more.
    Then the case of this French guy, very young actually. He didn't say much, but apparently he didn't have to. It was funny to hear how the girls he "dated" talked about him... they weren't angry at him for the most part. So, it seems the tactic used by this guy went like this... he sort of followed the girl when she was going to a place where there was going to be some privacy; then, he approached her without saying much, so the girl didn't quite have time to realize what was going on. Normally she would start babbling things like "what are you doing?", to which he would answer "sh sh, it's okay..." and then proceeded...
    And of course, this Brazilian that probably takes the prize. He was in fact a good friend of mine, an extremely polite individual, but made me wonder what the reason of his was. He made a bet with another guy friend of both, about seducing all the girls that worked in a nearby strip mall. To most of my chagrin he did win the bet, and because he was so proper, polite and discreet, he never had problems with angry women. Honestly, I never learned how he managed to do it. Something that it was evident though, is that he never hit attached women or his female friends, and that his relations to women had to be fully consensual.

However, I did NOT mention anyone's ethnicity, nor did I even think it might have anything to do with it, until YOU posted in that thread that the whole situation reminds you of Latino men and their conflicts. So it was you who introduced the concept that there might be a cultural element. I had never even considered that, until you mentioned it. It was only after that that I said the player is a Latin lover.

I'm sorry if I offended you or anyone else. I didn't mean to. It was you who introduced "Latino" into the subject matter of that player thread, and it happened that might have been a cultural influence there. Then again, maybe not.

I think when use the term "Latin lover" we mean a player who is a Latin guy. However, we could just say "player", and no need to attach ethnicity to it, which is what I had done, until you introduced/attached ethnicity to the situation and topic when you said the situation reminded you of Latino men's behavior, and the player guy is a Latino man, and so are many of my male friends locally who I am culturally influenced by. So you did that yourself, introducing "Latino" into my player thread, and then I just went with it since you'd introduced the concept, and the player in that case is Latino.

Of course there are Anglo white and black players too, and also players among all racial/cultural/ethnic groups. The nice thing about the word "player" is that it does NOT attach ethnicity to the jerk in question.

Your 3 examples of men:

The American from Seattle. I assume he was Anglo white? If so, I'm not surprised. I know players of all races, including Anglo white guys. In fact, they're the ethnic group I've observed to have the 3rd most players after 2 others that seem to have even more. So yes, players are somewhat common among Anglo whites. My ethnic group is few in number in my local area. So for that reason, and because most of us look Anglo white (though some of us look part Asian) we are culturally Anglo white American because that's how we were raised. The French guy: French is a type of Latin culture. French language is based largely on Latin language with some German and maybe Celtic and other things mixed in. French is a Romance language (related to Roman, aka Latin). The French are white and Latin. Same with Italians and many others in Southern Europe who fall into both groups (white and Latin).

So 2 of your 3 examples of players are Latin men. They're not Hispanics, but they are Latins. Latin includes anyone who's language is based on Latin, and that includes the French,(and therefore Brazilians), and Spanish (and therefore Hispanics). Cultures with Latin based language also have Latin cultural influences.

However, I see what you are intending to convey - and I agree that players come in all races and cultures. I know Anglo white, other white, black, and Latino players exist. I even know one Asian American player, but players seem less common among them. Players exist among all races and cultures. However, some cultures seem more tolerant of players than other cultures, which substantially affects how freely a player may operate and how many players there are. Social tolerance of players encourages them. Social intolerance of players discourages them.

I can think of two cultures that glorify and idolize players, and tolerate them, and guess what? Those 2 cultures have more players. I can think of one culture that hates players, socially ostracizes them, and does not tolerate them, and guess what? That culture has few players. The other cultures that I'm familiar with are between these extremes, with to much toleration of players, but at least they don't glorify them.

So while I agree that players exist among all cultures, I do think that there is a cultural factor based on how tolerant a given culture is affecting how many players there are in that culture, how freely they can operate, and what the consequences would be if they are caught. If caught, would they be idolized and heroes, ignored, tolerated, or villains? What, if any, possible social consequences (or rewards) do they face?

What i understand as a "Latin Lover" is the kind of guy that is secure in his manhood, knows and studies the woman, their reactions, the things they like, as if they were studying a career. They learn everything about them. And then they use it. What they like is to please and by pleasing others they please themselves, they know what moves to use to get to a woman and usually they are

They use romanticism, words, actions and everything on their power to get to a woman. And this is different from being macho like guys.

OP you cant say that cus you know 50 guys that are , LATIN 20 that are Asian and 5 that are (to give an example) you cant generalize that there is less players or more players in certain races or cultures. Because the number of people you know, doesnt equally the number of people in the world not even in an extend to formulate a statistic on how their culture dictates their morals. Players has nothing to do with culture, i think it has to do with how they got raised and the morals they got from their parents or family enviroment. And certainly players arent latin lovers.
